Each time we enroll English Learner newcomers, we can feel overwhelmed by the monumental challenge of meeting their needs. And just imagine the sense of overwhelm EL newcomers feel when they arrive in our classrooms. This discussion will focus on practices to help us understand the needs of EL newcomers, how to facilitate their sense of belonging in our school communities, and how to help them access the curriculum. At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to implement practices and strategies to help EL newcomers feel safe, supported, and experience success in the PreK-12 school setting.
